Evelyn Findlater

Evelyn is the founder and project manager of Good Food Matters. As a trained teacher with 30 years cooking and teaching experience, she has published eight books on healthy eating including the first Wholefood Cookery Course book published in 1983. Evelyn wrote the food article for the Organic Gardening magazine for eight years, ran her own health store, restaurant and cookery school in Devon and presented several local TV series on healthy eating for both adults and children.

Not just passionate about cooking good, healthy ethically produced food, Evelyn has created many organic kitchen gardens, including 2 school gardens, over the last 25 years. In 2006, with the support of GFM, Evelyn redesigned and fundraised to develop the growing plots used by the Croydon Youth Offending Team for reparation works. Their upgrade included quality equipment and tools, a large poly-tunnel, a large fruit cage, 160 scaffold boards to make benches for the polytunnel and 16 raised beds, two steel sheds and a small orchard.

Four years ago, seeing the needs of young people in Croydon, she formed the charity, Good Food Matters, with the help of a small band of volunteers, in order to build a teaching kitchen for disadvantaged and excluded children and young people in Croydon.

Polly Tyrer

GFM is fortunate in having Polly come on board as a cookery teacher from January 2008.  Polly was Vice Principal of Leith’s School of Food and Wine when it opened in 1975 and later moved on to be head chef and then Managing Director of Leith’s Good Food.

She took the Leith’s Good Food to the Mandarin Hotel in Hong Kong and was instrumental in setting up the company’s contract with the Orient Express in the Far East. She has published 6 cookery books including the well reviewed Leith’s Vegetarian Bible (published in 2000).

After 20 years experience in the food industry Polly is now a regular consultant chef to companies who promote British products as well as teaching adults and children how to cook healthy food.
